At some point we accepted the idea that shepherding is the preeminent leadership role of “church.” In doing so, we misread the word as a title instead of a function, and we further eroded leadership by assuming that “sheep” is the preeminent behavior of the remainder of the Body. We lost the need for apostles, prophets, and teachers in the context in which they were originated, and we relegated evangels to the identity of “souls winners.”
